Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 11, 2025

This Privacy Policy explains how Horizon Times ("Horizon Times," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use horizontimes.app and related services (the "Service").

If you do not agree with this Policy, you should not use the Service.

1. Who we are & how to contact us

Controller: Horizon Times

Email: contact@horizontimes.app

If you reside in the EEA/UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. (See Section 12.)

2. Scope

This Policy covers information processed through the Service. It does not cover third-party sites or services that link to or from the Service.

3. What we collect

We design the Service to work with minimal personal data. We do not require user accounts.

a) Technical and usage data (processed automatically)

IP address, approximate location derived from IP (city/country level), device and browser type/version, OS, language, referring/exit pages, timestamps, pages viewed, and basic interaction metrics.

These are captured in server or edge logs and/or privacy-friendly analytics.

b) Preference data (stored on your device)

Time format, selected cities/time zones, UI preferences, and similar settings saved in browser local storage.

We do not receive this data unless your browser sends it to our servers (e.g., as part of normal requests).

c) Shared timeline links

When you create/share a link, configuration data (e.g., selected time zones) is encoded in the URL. We do not store this configuration server-side. Anyone with the link can view the configuration.

d) Communication data

If you email us, we'll process your email address, message content, and metadata to respond and maintain records.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive categories of personal data. Please do not include sensitive information in communications with us.

4. Cookies & similar technologies

We do not use tracking cookies for core functionality.

The Service may use strictly necessary technologies (e.g., security/anti-abuse mechanisms).

For analytics, we may use a privacy-focused provider (e.g., Cloudflare Web Analytics or a similar tool) that operates without cross-site tracking cookies. Where required by law, we will seek consent before enabling analytics.

You can clear local storage and cookies at any time via your browser settings.

5. How we use information

We process information to:

  • Provide, operate, and improve the Service (e.g., render accurate time data, performance tuning);
  • Secure the Service (fraud/abuse prevention, debugging, incident response);
  • Understand aggregate usage (privacy-friendly analytics and metrics);
  • Communicate with you when you contact us; and
  • Comply with legal obligations.

6. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)

Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we rely on:

  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) for security, logs, essential operations, and privacy-friendly analytics;
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) where we use non-essential analytics in consent jurisdictions;
  • Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) where required (e.g., responding to lawful requests).

You can withdraw consent at any time (it won't affect processing already performed).

7. Sharing & disclosures

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information with:

  • Service providers/Processors (e.g., hosting via Cloudflare; privacy-friendly analytics; email service) under contracts that require appropriate safeguards and restrict processing to our instructions.
  • Legal and safety: if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.
  • Business transfers: in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred subject to this Policy.

8. International data transfers

We may process data in countries outside your own (including the US). Where required, we implement appropriate safeguards (e.g., Standard Contractual Clauses) or rely on adequacy decisions. You may request more details via contact@horizontimes.app.

9. Retention

  • Server/edge logs: typically retained for short operational periods (e.g., 30–90 days) unless needed longer for security, investigations, legal, or compliance.
  • Communications: retained as long as necessary to respond and maintain records.
  • Local storage on your device: persists until you clear it or your browser purges it.

We minimize retention to what is necessary for the purposes described.

10. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (e.g., edge-network protections, access controls, least-privilege, encryption in transit). No system is perfectly secure; please share links and information responsibly. Shared URLs may be accessible to anyone who obtains them.

11. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights over your personal data, including:

  • Access, rectification, erasure, portability;
  • Restriction or objection to processing;
  • Withdrawal of consent (where processing is based on consent).

To exercise rights, email contact@horizontimes.app. We may need to verify your identity to process certain requests. You also have the right to complain to your supervisory authority (see next section).

12. EEA/UK complaints

If you are in the EEA/UK, you can contact your local supervisory authority. A list of EU authorities is available from the European Data Protection Board; UK residents may contact the ICO. We encourage you to contact us first so we can try to resolve your concern.

13. Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16 (or the age required by your country's laws to consent to online services). If you believe a child has provided personal data, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

14. Third-party data & attributions (non-personal)

The Service uses time zone information from third-party sources such as the IANA Time Zone Database and GeoNames. While this is generally non-personal, you must comply with any applicable notices or licenses when reusing such data. We do not claim ownership over third-party datasets.

15. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. For material changes, we will provide notice within the Service (e.g., a banner or in-app notice) at least 30 days before the changes take effect, unless changes are required sooner by law or relate to new features launched on a trial basis.

Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.

16. Contact

Questions or requests about this Policy: contact@horizontimes.app

We aim to respond within 2 business days.
